RSRS offers courses for beginning and experienced riders: Basic RiderCourse - $219 Experienced RiderCourse - $75 Moped Course - $25 Introduction To Motorcycling - $55 BRC Refresher Course - $55 Individualized Training - To be determined on an individual basis Basic RiderCourse_______________________________ The Basic RiderCourse (BRC) is designed with new riders in mind. No previous motorcycle riding experience is required for our BRC - just come with a good attitude and a willingness to have fun and try new skills! It helps if you know how to balance and ride a bicycle. RSRS is recognized by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and licensed by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. MSF supplies our curriculum and materials, and you can learn more about the BRC through their interactive tour. Our course follows The BRC Rider Handbook, which is available online at MSF's site at http://msf-usa.org/CurriculumMaterials/BRC_Handbook_Vs71_noprint.pdf . Our course includes both classroom and riding instruction, with high-quality, personalized coaching and many hours of practice riding. We provide both the motorcycles and the FUN! Riders 18 years and older can earn their motorcycle endorsement by successfully completing our BRC. Minors can complete their motorcycle safety course requirement by completing this course. Our Basic RiderCourse costs $219. Course Requirements
Our
BRC is about 17 hours long
and combines valuable classroom discussion and practice riding on a
controlled, closed parking lot. To enhance student learning,
class sizes are small with six to eight students.
The classroom discussions help prepare you for the riding portions of the course and provide you with critical knowledge you'll need to ride on the street. Topics include protective gear, rider and motorcycle preparation, risk management, rider responsibility, street strategies, special riding situations, alcohol and drug impairment, and motorcycle laws and equipment requirements. The riding exercises begin with very basic skills, such as mounting the motorcycle and identifying its controls, and steadily build to simulated street riding strategies. The course is divided into two levels. Level I concentrates on motorcycle familiarization, clutch control, throttle control, riding posture, and the four basic skills of motorcycle riding: straight-line riding, turning, smooth shifting, and stopping quickly. Level II uses the four basic skills to develop a variety of street skills, including limited-space maneuvers, countersteering, cornering, and swerving. General Information Training motorcycles are provided, and our fleet currently includes: three Kawasaki BN125 Eliminators, a Suzuki GS 250T, a Kawasaki KZ250LTD, a Kawasaki KZ305LTD, a Honda CB200T, two Yamaha SR250s, a Honda CB400T2 Hawk, a Honda CMX250 Rebel, and a Kawasaki 250R Ninja. Jackson Cycle and Doug's Sports Center have also agreed to provide a few motorcycles under MSF’s dealer loan program. Thank Larry or Doug when you visit their shops! You may ride your own motorcycle in the course. Your bike must be street legal, licensed, insured, and in compliance with the equipment requirements outlined in the Minnesota Motorcycle Manual. You must show proof of insurance. BRC course graduates will be presented with a MSF course completion card and may be eligible for insurance discounts, as well as incentives and/or discounts from motorcycle manufacturers, dealerships, and/or riding clubs. Check out the benefits described on our Frequently Asked Questions page. Be ready to present your MSF course completion card. Experienced RiderCourse_________________________ Are you physically and mentally prepared for this year's riding season? Get prepared by taking an Experienced RiderCourse (ERC) from RSRS! Our ERC is geared for both new and experienced motorcyclists. If you're comfortable on your own motorcycle and want to fine-tune your riding skills, our ERC is exactly what you're looking for. Informal discussions cover perception and hazard awareness, riding strategies, traction, and risk management. The on-cycle exercises cover skills in limited-space maneuvers, cornering, swerving, and braking. Expect a ton of fun while becoming "one" with your bike! Eligibility Requirements
Our
ERC course is approximately six
hours in
length for groups of four to eight riders and takes place entirely on the
riding range. We'll even feed you! It meets some insurance
companys' requirements for training discounts, and some
riding groups and clubs even offer partial cost
reimbursement. We
heartily welcome groups of friends or
organizations! Our Experienced RiderCourse costs
$75.
ERC graduates will receive a MSF course completion card. This course will NOT provide a Skills Test Waiver Authorization, meaning you cannot earn your motorcycle endorsement through this course. Moped Course__________________________________ A moped is defined as having 50 cc or less, less than 2 hp, and capable of no more than 30 mph. Our classroom-only moped course is a great introduction to riding and is presented on the second day of any of our BRCs during the "Street Strategies" portion. The three-hour course is required for anyone 15 years of age or older who does not have a driver's license and wishes to ride a moped on the street. You may take the course if you are at least 14 years old; however, you cannot obtain your moped permit until you are 15 years old. After completing our course, you can earn your moped permit by bringing your completion certificate to a state exam station and passing their knowledge test and skill test. Each of these tests is $6.75. Pre-registration is recommended, but we'll take walk-ins during any scheduled BRC. Our Moped Course costs $25.00. Introduction to Motorcycling_______________________ Have you ever wanted to just TRY riding a motorcycle - just to get the feel for what it's like to ride and to see if you would even like it?? Here's your chance to give it a try! This intro course is for the true novice, someone who has never ridden a motorcycle and wants to learn just the basics at his/her own speed, and may be especially beneficial for students who do not have experience with a clutch. In three hours, we'll give you a hands-on introduction to the motorcycle's controls and their operation. We'll talk, ride, and have fun learning together at a relaxed pace. This course is not a pre-requisite for the BRC. There are no written or skills tests for this course and a motorcycle permit is not required; however, students will need to possess a driver's license or a driver's permit. The course will be taught on a controlled, closed parking lot using RSRS training motorcycles, and each student must furnish his or her own protective clothing and DOT-approved helmet. Students cannot earn their motorcycle endorsement in this course. Our Introduction To Motorcycling course costs $55. BRC Refresher Course____________________________ Would you like a little more seat time before you hit the streets? Our BRC Refresher Course is ideal for newer riders who have completed the BRC and returning riders who would like some additional coaching and riding time in a controlled environment. This four-hour refresher course will utilize selected riding exercises from the BRC and will be customized to the students' individual needs. Our training motorcycles will be provided. We welcome groups of friends or organizations - please contact us to set up a course just for you! Our BRC Refresher Course will cost $55.00. Eligibility Requirements
Individualized
Training____________________________ RSRS can provide individualized training to individuals or small groups upon request. Training will be customized to your riding experience and needs. You may use your own bike or one of our training bikes. Specific dates, times, location, and cost will be determined on an individual basis. Contact us if you are interested. |
